Community Services and Organizing
Westside Housing Organization believes that the impetus for collaborative, comprehensive and sustainable community development starts and ends with the people.
Community development is a two way conversation with residents leading the way. What does the community want or need? What’s happening on a particular block that needs attention? Will the community like an ultra-modern home design? Westside Housing solicits community input and feedback for all of its projects and programs, while placing equal emphasis on supporting neighborhood events and community issues.
Even more importantly, residents tackle big projects, recruit new volunteers and take leadership positions every day to improve the quality of their lives. Westside Housing provides direct assistance to residents who want to become involved and blocks that want to organize. Community organizers are on staff working directly with residents, providing resources, guidance and increasing safety to help them achieve their goals.
If you live in one of our service areas and would like to organize your entire block or become an individual Neighborhood Anchor, please contact Westside Housing Organization Asset Manager Suzanne Bash Taylor at 816-421-8048 for more information and assistance.
Never has the following quote been more appropriate than in reference to resident engagement:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed people can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Mead
